Memorial Lecture

Bhabananda Deka Memorial Lecture is being organised annually at Pragjyotish College, Guwahati, since 2007. Late Deka, who was the former Head of the Department and the Third Principal of Pragjyotish College (1987-1992), was a pioneer in writing books on Economics and Political Science in Assamese for the convenience of students who pursued higher studies in Economics through vernacular medium.

Besides being an economist he was also a Vaishnaivate Scholar. He also had a short stint in the Union Public Service Commisson, New Delhi. To commemorate his hallowed memory the Department under the aegis of the Economic Planning Forum began organising an Annual Lecture inviting reputed scholars from prestigious institutes.

The first lecture was jointly organised with Pragjyotish College Teachers' Unit (PCTU) on Late Dekas' first Death Anniversary.
